2k box hangs on "Starting Windows"

Some unknown change was done in the bios on a older MB w/ a Celeron 633 processor and now the box only gets as far as the 'Starting Windows' screen. The owner wasn't sure what was done. (Don't ask why he was in there.)

What has been done so far:
1. Loaded 'Setup' & 'Optimum' defaults in the Bios,
2. Cleared the CMOS (jumper).

I can't get in safe mode either. There is only a single Profile for 'Last known configuration'. NO hardware changes have been made.

Any ideas??

That's a pretty old computer...something probably died or went faulty and it was probably just coincidence that it happened right after the owner went into the BIOS.

Have you tested the RAM and hard drives yet?

Do this to find the problem:

1. When starting your computer, press F8 to view the Windows 2000 boot options.
2. Select the option for viewing the messages during bootup.
3. Nothing but text will appear on the screen.
4. Note the last line it tries to load and post it here.

It might be called the "Boot Log".

I would have to remove the drive from the box and hook it up to another box to get the file.

Anyway, it seems it was the Power Mangement setting. It was set to Disable.

The option ends with "with Command Prompt".
Basically it shows you what is being loaded instead of displaying the splash screen.
