no sys restore-what happened?
XPpro, 3 GHz, 1.5 Gb: System began acting up the other day. Tried to restore to earlier time, but everytime the message came back that the computer was unable to restore to the restore point selected. These points included both the system checkpoint and restore points I created. I tried every restore point back for 1 1/2 weeks. SO...I ended up to a repair install of XP, got everything working well. I had disabled sys restore after the repair. Did my usual sys cleaning of malware, Norton, etc. Activated sys restore yesterday. Besides the usual sys checkpoints that were added, other points were added when adding/deleting programs. System began acting up again, went immediately to sys restore to the point just after the cleaning and once again, I get the message that my computer is unable to restore to the earlier point. Over the past few years, I have had this same situation for often than not. Any idea why this happening? I thought sys restore was one of the first lines of defense for windows!! Man, that iMac I have my eye on is looking more and more attractive.

Try running a chkdsk on the disk. Not saying it's your exact problem, but I have run into "can't restore" a couple of times and that's what fixed it for me.

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!
For over a year I have not had access to system restore. When using SR it would just show a white screen. I have spent hours and hours searching for an answer. So, I just used Acronis and Norton ghost to back up. Care to guess which one was the pain in my a--? After reading this post and following Les28 url I decided to uninstall ghost and I'M BACK. I will NEVER use anything associated with norton or symantec again. If this is old news or I am to stupid to read norton's instructions I apologize. Should not be that difficult. Thanks LES28. |

I've never heard of it either, and I use Norton NAV. Had 2006 on this machine and 2007 on the other one, but I never had problem with System Restore on either machine. Apparently the problem only affects certain systems...
