I have a machine I want to add to my domain at the office but it has windows xp home. I need to upgrade it to XP Pro without formating the hard drive for a fresh install. I have way too much on the hard drive to worry about backing it.
If I use the XP pro upgrade option do I lose all my data and software that I had on the XP home?

First of all I would a back up before even contemplating such an upgrade. Haven't done an Home to Pro upgrade in a very long time, but I'm sure I just loaded the CD when in Windows proper, clicked on the Upgrade button and waited (with crossed fingers) for it to do it's magic after the re-boot. |
