Hi Gang
I am thinking of changing my mail provider, I am tired of the Beta version of Yahoo Mail. I am being told that Outlook mail is a good one. I would appreciate any help on this matter, your opinions, etc. Does any one how to find plain Outlook, not Outlook Express.? Do you have to have Microsoft Live, in order to have Outlook mail.? I know you all on here have tried and tested a lot of what I am looking for, is the reason I am asking here, and I do appreciate your opinions. Thanx and take care........Gunny |

Outlook is just like any other part of MS office it's included in the package or can be bought by itself, I don't know the price. You don't need MS live to use Outlook. Mozilla Thunderbird is a free and good alternative to Outlook.

Hi Gang
I am still having problems. I keep getting this Outlook send/receive progress window. What is that.? And it never seems to catch up with what it has to do. And the send thing down in the right bottom corner when I send a message it is very slow in sending. If this Outlook is no better then this, I will go back to Yahoo as bad as that is. Thanx.........Gunny |

Is secureserver.net the ISP for the location you're sitting at?
Most ISP's won't allow you to use a different IPS's SMTP account info to avoid "spoofing." You can however, use the SMTP for the current ISP. |

Hi Gang
Since I have used it for a bit I think I really like it, but still having a problem sending my replies/e-mails, and that stupid progress box keeps coming up, even though I have it checked to not do that. Why can't it work like all the other e-mail services, when you hit send IT should be sent instead of sitting there for how ever long. And you don't know if it is sent or not. I really would appreciate some help on this. Thanx and take care.......Gunny |

Please tell us clearly how your email is set up? Is your ISP: pacbell.net (AT&T) Are you trying to use another email domain - that was not provided to you by your ISP? What EzyStvy was mentioning before, and this seems to be what's happening, is that if you use an email address & servers that was not provided by your ISP .. the mail will not go through. Most servers have instituted this policy of not allowing you to use any other SMTP server on port 25. This is done to reduce spam. read: http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=4640 As mentioned in the document, you must either use AT&T (assuming this is your ISP) to send email or check with your email service provider if you can use authenticated SMTP. |

Hi Statica
I appreciate you getting back to me on this. Now I am with ATT/Yahoo, and I have been using their mail service for some time and as you probably know there better e-mail service is a Beta version, and as with most beta version of anything there are problems. Now I am tired of their problems and excuses for them, so I made up my mind to change. They are ok as providers, buy everything else stinks. So I have been told and have read that this Outlook, (not Outlook Express) is a pretty good one to have. So I have Microsoft office, and Outlook being a part of that I thought this would be a no brainer. Every one else seems to have different e-mail service separate from there providers, so there I go. I have been told by friends of mine that have Earthlink, etc that this Outlook is a good one to have. So I have read several articles on how to install Outlook, and they make it seem like a easy thing to do too. So I did the download, etc. I can receive e-mail ok I think but sending is not working right, as I have posted before. Tell me exactly what you need as far as info and I will post it here. I do know this is essential for solving these problems. I am not stupid I have been around computers for some time. I am not a novice nor am I an expert. Thanx.......Gunny |

So are you using AT&T for email? What's probably confusing me is that you allude to a server "SMTPout.secureserver.net" .
If you are, in fact AT&T for email try this... http://helpme.att.net/article.php?it...action=Refresh |

Hi Statica
Thanx for the tip. I seen that article too some where and I have already done that. It seemed to correct it some what. One question is this some thing that is in the realm of being done, having 2 different mail services running at the same time, or am I trying to be stupid about this. I know it probably would be better like most things to drop one and concentrate on just one at a time. But I would do that but I have so much going on with my Yahoo mail right now, that I would hate to drop it until I know I can depend on this Outlook. I know it would not be the end of the world if I lost all my email but I think you know where I am coming from. I am sure we all feel this way about things on our computers. And when we use some thing like this for a long time we get so used to how it works we don't even think about it, then we go to some thing new and different and we have to start thinking again. How does this work and where is this. Outlook might be working the way it should and I am just not use to it yet. But I do know when you hit the send button it is supposed to go, no hesitation, just go. And so far it don't seem to be doing this, I will go back into Outlook and double check my settings to make sure that stuck, what you sent me. Thanx and take care........Gunny |

Hi Again
Well it is not working right. When I do the test to check if my settings are right, the Pop3 setting seem to be all right. They are ----pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com and this seems to pass the test ok but my SMTP settings--SMTP.mail.yahoo.com fails. I have tried several different setting with the SMTP, worded it differently and it still fails. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong, or what I could try.??? I was thinking the wording should be the same in both tried that no change, the smtp settings fail. Thanx.........Gunny |

Take a look at this Gunny. Seems that Yahoo! has a special requirement to run their email thru Outlook.

Hi Panama
Well that answers the whole question. It makes sense what it says. I don't have the extra mail plus, it costs an extra $10 a month for this service. And I did not get it because there is no guarantee that the mail service would be any better, cause it stinks now, so paying $10 a month is going to make it better, with Yahoo I don't think so. I don't like to flush money down the toilet. Question if this is so, that you have to have this extra service, why does it let me receive mail on Outlook and not be able to send. I would think it would not allow me to do anything, or even get that far. And all of the reading I have done on this no one ever mentions if you have their extra mail service. No wonder what all I did to try and correct it and nothing worked. And all the time is was this stopping me. I wonder if there is any other mail service that Yahoo cant stop me from getting. Thanx.........Gunny |
