Copy Audio CD and PC Hangs

Starting a new post on this subject. This one amd pc of mine will lock up every time i click on "copy cd" in WMP9. It seems as if this is the only reason it will lock up. I tried the following one at a time with no luck:
- Disconected each cd rom, video card, floppy, memory stick, fire wire pci card.
- Turned off everthing in start up in msconfig.
- Rolled back sound and video drivers.
- Assured my cpu is not over 60 deg's C.
- Run a memtest ver 1.70 and let it rerun for 4 hours.
- Scanned the bios and found nothing wrong.
- Even checked the mobo pin jumpers for the front audio.

It seems to be a cpu or mobo problem? Maybe not - could be a driver? Any Ideas?
See the second pc config in my signature for the specs. It is the amd pc.
Thanks, again FDB

Does it only happen with WMP9?

Have you tried to use different software?

I have been using Roxio Audio Central 1.1 and i'm trying to make it as we type. So far the Audio Central ripped the same cd 2 times. The WMP9 will hang within seconds of a rip.

Okay, this is wierd. I just changed my WMP9 copy settings to lossless and it is copying the cd and every few seconds my speakers will squeek and squeel like its going to crash. And just as I typed this it crashed half way through the copy. Bummer.
Any ideas?

Ok, let's try a few of these:

Have you tried downloading free burner software and trying that?

Have you tried changing the cables to the cd drive?

Have you tried to place the drive ina different computer and seeing if it works?

Have you tried another drive that you know works and putting it in this computer and trying?

I'm pretty sure I ruled the cd drives out as I removed the dvd rw and turned the cdrom to cable select. Then I swapped and tried dvd rw only as a cable select. And the same happened. Also I installed a fairly new 80 wire cable from my collection of stuff I cannot part with. I'm going to try another software. I have a Nero suit and I will look at cnet for some others but that will take a while and i can type back another time. Thank you. Any more input would be very much appreciated.

Shadowpr, while I was trying different things I tried a used sound card and turned the oem audio off in the bios it did the same and locked up. After a reboot I just turned on a fox news video and let it run for a few and the pc locked up after 6 or 7 minutes of steaming video. The same way it locks up with the cd rip ??? If I only had another Mobo or cpu to try. Starting to sound like the worst. I did note the cpu jumped to 61 deg's C but that should not hurt or am I wrong?

The CPU jumping to 61 can cause slowdowns and lockups. Time for a good case cleaning and heatsink reseating with new thermal compound.
