safe mode and shutting of screen saver

I have found it best to defrag in safe mode but it seems you cannot shut off the screen saver in safe mode. I would prefer to not have that running. Any suggestion would be appreciated. thanks

With 2K, XP, and Vista there is no need to use safe mode to defrag. That was only necessary with 9x/ME. Screen savers don't matter with 2K/XP/Vista either.

That said, I don't know how to shut it off.

Although, you would think that the screen saver would be automatically be off in safe mode. Where would be the need to have it on?

Dunno, but screen savers haven't been necessary to prevent monitor burnin for years. They are still around for entertainment purposes. I don't use them.

I would think that if you do not have screen saver enabled while in normal mode, that it wouldn't be enabled in safe mode either.

EDIT:
I just went into safe mode on mypc, (XP Pro wsp2), and it came up to safe mode with screensaver set to none, just like I always have it set in normal mode, and while still in safe mode I could change the settings for the screen saver the same as I would always do in normal mode. Only problem seems to be that in safe mode it can't actually display most of the screen savers because of the reduced video settings while in safe mode. Probably if you disable yours in normal mode, then boot to safe mode it will be disabled in safe mode also.

I usually defrag my hdd in normal mode, and the frequency is about once two months. In fact, my drives are often not necessary to defrag, because I only save data that may never be deleted..
