Automatic update question-
My computer has been telling me for months that there is a Microsoft upgrade that I should have done. I've tried doing this install a couple of times now, and so I leave my computer on through the night with the "install" taking place, only to find it is continuing to do so after 10 - 11 hours of running! At the moment (as I type this) it "apparently" is updating Internet Explorer to version 7, and it shows the green lines in the update "barometer (my name for it) that the update is taking place, yet why would it take so long to finish?
In the past I've just stopped the update in frustration, but have let it run this time, and it continues to do so. Is there a way to have this update finish quicker, and how long should an automatic update take? I have the little "shield" in my taskbar, which is where the update takes place from, and I assume it will stay there, and continue to tell me of updates until they actually finish, which is why I am continuing it now, as I'm tired of the shield pop up every time I boot my computer. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks.. Dale

Try uninstalling IE6, which I assume you have. That way the updater won't 'see' it and will install it fresh.
Ever considered using a different browser?

Yes, to the question "Ever considered using a different browser?" in that I use Mozilla Firefox for 99% of my browsing! The main issue here is the constant pop up reminder in the bottom taskbar asking me to "Update" my software.
There isn't an option to saying "No, I'd rather not"!! Firefox will sometimes have it's issues too, so having an alternative is nice, but I certainly am fine with the current IE version, it's only this task bar pop up I'd like to eliminate. PSD2000 |

Maybe THIS link will be helpful in avoiding IE7? I did not use that trick, but maybe it would work for you.
I think I started the IE7 installation and then canceled it, after which I never got any more of the reminders.
