Reason for XP's RAM limit

Why XP has a RAM limit if 3.1GB.

Doesn't explain why the 32bit version of Server 2003 can handle more than 4gig of RAM.

Hence the title of the thread. Other than it's 32bit, I would take a guess and say its probably the same if not a similar reason.

If you have a Server with 16 gig of RAM it doesn't actually read the full 16gig; it reads smaller 32bit compatible 3-4gig chunks, it just 'merges' them together.
