xp wont install

so I just got a new sata hd and I have tried to install 3 different versions of xp and they all go through the initial file copying but then when the computer restarts to continue the install it says the same operating system error. I also tried vista which actually completes but i cant use it because it was one of the beta versions which is now expired. This is a new hd and could be faulty but why the hell would vista work and xp wouldnt?

Also I have another xp sata hd which i had before but now once i tried installing the new hd and windows it will only give me the ntldr error which I had before but I used to be able to start up with a xp install cd. Now that wont work and even though i have boot from cd selected I tried to make a ntldr fix cd(bcupdate2.exe) but it just gives me the ntldr error like its not even booting from the cd. It will do this also with any other cd ive tried like my hardrive diagnosis cd. The only cd it seems to recognize are operating system cd's

Any clue?

Ive tried just hooking up one hd at a time but I get the same results but I had them on sata 3 and 4 but ill go try 1 and 2 now because I read it might help on here. but It will take me a while cause im at a friends posting this since i have no internet at home.

During the XP install are you doing the F6 install drivers from floppy option?

What I understand is that there is a problem with one of the boot files(NTLDR).
Please note that you install the earlier version of the OS 1st and than the latest version after.

As far as F6 command is concerned, it is used to install the SCSI driver.

And, also to install RAID and SATA drivers. Vista installs as it has SATA drivers natively built-in but XP doesn't as it came out before SATA was made. Hence, the reason why in most cases you need to install the SATA/RAID driver using the F6 command.

thanks guys, im gonna try f6 later tonight when I get home. The only reason I have not is because I dont have a floppy drive in the computer. Wierd thing is I have another sata drive which was my former o/s and that installed xp with no sata driver way back when.

XP will install on SATA without a driver if you do not use RAID or AHCI and if the SATA controller is native to the motherboard chipset. 3rd party SATA (JMicron, Silicon Image, Promise, etc.) controllers require drivers.

Aye, forgot to add that bit.

Try a different CD as it could be your is dirty/corrupt. Also, make sure the drive is on the first channel and that the BIOS is set to boot from that drive.

well I have tried so many things and this hard drive will not correctly install windows. I tried vista and I get through the install but then I chose the option to purchase a key and it gives me a error code.

Is there a good chance the hd is just messed up because thats about all i can figure.

If the hdd was corrupt I wouldn't expect Vista to install.

Start all over agin or better zero fill your HDD. Then start from the oldest version of Windows to the newest one.
