Win ME Error Msg Help Pls!
Win ME error Msgs: "Data Error Reading Drive C:"
Computer was working fine last nite and in the morning I see this darn Msg. I can't go to SAFE MODE. I also tried using Win ME Boot Disk from Bootdisk.Com so that I could FDISK and REFORMAT, but I get the same messages. After that all it offers is: "Abort. Try, Fail!" Why is this happening and what shall I do next? Tnx. |

If you know the brand of your hard disk then go and download the Diagnostic utilties from the manufacturer - if don't find them let me know.. but I have to know at least what hard drive you are using - name of manufacturer - like Seagate of Quantum or alike - It seems that your hard drives FAT has been destroyed or that the hard drive has become bad sectors in the System Area of the Drive - cluster 0 - 2..
Only way to get at least a somewhat real answer is to use the diagnostic tools - because this tools have a much deeper insight into your hard drive than Scandisk or any utilty..

Do you know how to remvoe a hard drive ? there are or should be 4 screws holding it and all you have to do is to loosen them and then removing the IDE cable and power cable from the drive .. make sure that you remember how you disconnect them - even the possiblity is slim that you can insert the Cable the wrong way but it is still there..
Then look at the labe of the hard drive and then note everythings down what you see there - model and make - post it back here . be sure that you know if you can do this or not. anyway this is one of my precautions to anybody I try to help so don't think that I'm thinking you are Stupid or alike - NO NEVER but just to make sure that you don't break anything.. Hard drives are like RAW EGGS - handle with care..no bangs no heavy fast turning and for sure not slamming the hard drive on a table or alike .. Let us know |

You might try downloading Ontrack's Data Advisor and running it. Here's the link:

Ok,Thanks to all...
I got it done already. I finally got hold of the CD-ROM Recovery Disk of ULTRA-PowerMax. It restored the corrupted files. Oh, yeah this is a "proprietary stuff" of my friend. I was looking for it, but it seems he did not know that this CD exists in his treasure trunk well hiden. |
