Changing page file gives runtime error

Okay so I've been tweaking xp just for fun recently. I thought I'd try and change around the page file to another SATA drive that is a little newer.

Here's my problem. I open through windows the manager to change the page file and then try and select my other drive.

The error reads:

Runtime error!

Program: C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I thought it was because the pagefile was currently in use, so I disabled it rebooted and tried again. It still didn't work.

Above is a video of how I tired to do it.

Also, I have two drives running two different OS. Vista and XP. I am trying to change my Xp pagefile to the hdd with Vista on it. Could that be an issue?

What happens if you try and put it in that extended partition on the C drive?

Also I noticed that when you initially went into performance to move the swap file, no paing file radio button was selected. Try setting it to custom level and making initial size the total of your ram and then max size 2 times the amount of initial.

If swapping to the extended partition works but still wont work on the vista drive i would assume it has something to do with the vista OS

The second reason is what I was thinking of being the problem. I can change the size of the page file and the location to any drive except the one with Vista on it.

Maybe there is a restriction that you cannot have two page files on the same drive? Or maybe its just vista. I dont have vista to dual boot so I cant even try and recreate the problem on my end to see exactly what causes this.

When you did your dual boot did you put in XP first then vista?

Yeah I believe so. I haven't even done anything with Vista except run a few games. I use XP a lot more than Vista. I will try changing the page file on vista to my xp drive.

I made some progress earlier. It now asks me if I want to replace the page file on that drive. It is a problem with Vista.
