xp will not boot
My friend built a pc with vista, it was his first build. He didn't like it, says that it messed up games etc. He wanted to go to xp. He wiped hd and installed xp. It now will not boot. Any advice please.

How far does it get into the boot process, is it posting and giving 1 beep like it should?
Sounds like we can pretty much assume here that is is not a hardware or faulty build issue since he had vista up and running properly, in which case the only thing left is to reboot with the XP cd and do a repair installation.

Use a zero fill utility then reinstall XP.

I would try to boot with the XP CD/DVD again and use the repair option. If that doesn't work then like GLC has said try a ZFU. Maxtor has a good utility for that. If you google it there are plenty out there. They are also sometimes called Low Level Format utilities.
