How do you have your cd drive and hard drive jumpered? Are they on the same cable?

CD Drives are on a separate cable then the hard drive.

Are they jumpered as master, or cable select?

The hard drive is jumpered master. The cd drives are both jumpered as cable select.

All drives should be jumpered cable select when used with 80 wire Ultra ATA cables.

Why is that? I have been using master/slave configs on 80 wire cables for ages.

Because that's the correct way to do it. Master/slave *can* be used, but you still have to observe master on end/slave in middle protocol *and* if you use WD or Hitachi drives, using master or slave jumpering if it's the only drive on the cable will *NOT* work. They have a separate setting for "single". Cable select will *always* work regardless of brand on cable select type cables, which *all* 80 wires are.

Oh well, I don't need to worry about it now, moving to SATA in my new PC.
