Weird problem with Outlook and IE/firefox

I've got this weird problem on a computer. Outlook will be open at the same time as Firefox or Internet explorer (has happened to both) when suddenly multiple internet browser windows will open up. They aren't popups or anything, they are duplicates of whatever was opened on the first.

I usually kill the process, but once I let it just go and over 100 browsers opened and more were still opening.

Here is the even stranger thing. Since I couldn't figure the problem out I reformatted the computer and re-installed XP. I updated windows, office and everything and it happened again.

I'm baffled and don't even know what to do now, any ideas?

Try a different keyboard and mouse. Something (key, button) may be sticking.

If the mouse and/or keyboard is wireless, you could have another wireless set close enough to interfere - this is what's happening to me here at my sister's house with my laptop. When my laptop is on the kitchen table and my wireless mouse is plugged in, if my nephew fires up his computer upstairs my mouse goes nuts. There are 4 sets of Logitech wireless mice/keyboards in the house and we are driving each other crazy.

the keyboard is only about a year old, it's USB (not wireless) and it is very basic, it doesn't have any special buttons for internet or anything.

it's one of these

and the mouse is a pretty standard dell USB optical (again not wireless)
