Move hard drive from an Intel machine to AMD new build

I want to move the hard drive from an Intel Core2 duo to a new build using AMD 64x2.
Do I just move the hard drive and do a repair install of XP Pro?.. or do I need to delete something first?
I read GLC's tips on changing a MOB on Win 2000,, he said to go into device drivers and " upgrade " the master IDE controller to standard IDE controllers, shut down and make the change.
I can't find the master IDE controller.. Is it listed in System Devices ? What is it called?
MOB is P5B-VM with E6600 using XP Pro.
Thanks

Go to Device Manager (right click My computer, properties, hardware, device manager). What you need is listed under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers". Change the named one, not the Primary or Secondary. For example, if I was transferring a HDD I would change "Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) to standard driver.

I was looking for something like that under IDE/ATA Atapi Controllerrs , but the only listing I have is :
Intel ICH8 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller- 2825
Intel ICH8 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller- 2820
Primary IDE Channel
Primary IDE Channel
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller

Nothing else under that category

You may have to do a repair reinstall. I haven't tested the controller change on SATA yet.
