Hello,
I am considering upgrading my system from an 925X motherboard to a P35/X38 based board. As I do not want to re-install my Windows XP and all applications again, I was wondering what issues I may encounter with driver/chipset differences. TO add a little more complexity to the mix I am running a RAID 1 setup using my current motherboards Intel Matrix Storage controller (ICH6R), so what can I expect when I boot up my system with the replacement motherboard? Is XP just going to die? Will I need to somehow install upgraded RAID drivers? ANy help or insights would be greatly appreciated. |

You will not be able to migrate a RAID 1 array over unless the new board also has a ICH6R. You can probably move ONE drive over as a standalone and do a repair reinstall of Windows, as per the thread in our Tips and Tricks forum.

I take it then that the ICH9R isn't backward compatible with the ICH6R RAID drivers?

It's not just a driver issue, its hardware, firmware, and array parameters.
Here is another way - get an external drive and cloning software. Clone the array to the external. Move the components, re-establish the array, then clone it back. A repair reinstall may still be required. |
