Registry Issues...
Hey all,
I am having an issue with an office install on XP. I installed office 03 on a freshly wiped machine and it worked great. I then tried to setup an optimum online email acct for outlook. I was having problems so I downloaded the auto setup file. It was a reg key and I knew better than to load it, but I just stuck it in figuring wth, why not. Well...ever since I implemented that .reg file, office will not load. It launches (shows the outlook/word/excel splash screen) and then says, "office encountered an error and needs to close...". I uninstalled/reinstalled and still no luck. I know i should have either backed up the registry or just simply not run the reg file, but was in a rush. =( So, here is my question. What can I do to fix this? I tried a different version of Office, a reinstall of 03 and a uninstall of everything, ran a CCLeaner reg check and reinstall everything, still nothing. Last thing tried was to reinstall office without outlook, still broken. Im kinda stumped, short of wiping the thing all over again. Any ideas? Thanks! -coldfront |

A System Restore would be nice but might be too late at this point.
Could try editing the reg file and compare it's enties to a good machine.

I am very squeamish about system restores as I have had some very bad experiences with it. I poked around in regedit to try and find the entries that were created, but no luck. What confuses me is that it broke office completely. I was pissed it broke outlook, but i installed thunderbird as a work around and the user is happy with that. But the crashes happen with everything associated with the install.
Ill give system restore a shot soon as I am pretty much out of ideas except for a wipe. Ill have to do that anyway if sysrestore f%&^s up like it usually does... I'll try the comparison thing, but I don't even know where the changes were made... Thanks! -coldfront |

It's situations like this that system restore is *exactly* intended for - it will restore the entire registry.
