1999 retail Windows 2000 PRO help needed
Hello all.
I need some helpful advice. If you have done this with an early retail Win 2000 PRO OS just let me know what I must learn & do. You don't need to teach me just let me know the best way to do this. I have 1 brand NIB made in 1999 Windows 2000 PRO Retail OS. One 3 year old White box cleaned new, PS, WD JB 160 gig HDD, Lite-on DVD/CD burner, Lite-on DVD/CD player, all new fans ball brg. SATA wires instead of big fat cables, a great ASUS MOBO for 2.1 AMD XP CPU. 2X 512mb DDR 333 RAM MICRON. I want to do something where I can use it now & as a all time restore CD with everything I need to acept a 160gb HDD + Trend Micro PC-Cillin Antiviris. The 1 help forum where you can call for help just sent me a DL for SP 4. I do know you need SP1 with some code or you can't make your way to SP4. I't seem as if I understand PCs if I can build & fix them. Well at 57 I bought my first PC in 1997 however it was the not so helpful Techs (" Just put the Compac Red restore disc in "). I got so mad I learned to build them myself so I built 3 two years after I bought the Compac. I spent 3 years at our local Collage learning Adobe Photo Shop bought flat scanners & slide/film scanners. I wanted to make a I spent my first 17 years growing up in 8 Countries with my 2 Sisters in the US ARMY. I guess that so much of my time was spent learning how to scan, then repair hundreds of of photos, Slides & Negitives from the 40s to the 90s. There is still so much I have to learn yet this is why I'm asking for advice from those who have done this with Win 2000 made before SP1 was added. Thanks Friends. Mike arth7863@bellsouth.net |

Take the CD and the full download of SP4 and create a slipstreamed CD. The original 2000 with no service packs will have a very difficult time with current hardware. You do not have to incorporate any intermediate service packs.

Admin PC still ok
Thanks you made my day
That sounds easier than I had believed it would be. If I am reading it right, there should be no problems in using my PC as the #1 Admin in our LAN with the other 2 PCs. I am putting Win 2000 OEM with a 2nd disc to bring them up to SP 4 & the diagnostic tools, they are Aug 2003, 2 CDs & 4 diskettes for older PCs I guess. These 2 PCs only had 98SE while I did have Win2000 oem SP3 OS on my ASUS PC, They have the great KT7A ABIT MOBOs with the same new parts Fans etcs. I will bring them up to 1 Gig of RAM also. Thanks for the great advice I will make a slipstream for the Retail Ver. Next step is to start repairing Photos & slides for DVD slide shows for Military Brats. Thanks, 2000 is worth every last drop.
