reformat HDD outside of XP install with only CDROM to boot from
trying to reformat a laptop hard drive, i only have a CDROM to boot from, cant remember how to get to the a prompt to get to FDISK the drive
the xp install keeps telling me the hard drive doesnt exist so i cannot reformat the usual XP install way. cannot do a repair install because the system froze midway in reformat. the hard drive may be dead. please refresh my memory, i need a CDrom boot disk to get to A prompt to run DOS type reformat. cheers

Remove the drive and install it in a desktop with an IDE or USB adapter. That way you can run full diagnostics on it too.

The first thing you need to do with the UBCD is run hard drive diags. If it checks out okay, then you can use DBAN to zero fill it.
