filebrowser hangs when networkdrives not found

Hi,

Our web-editor has a couple of networkdrives that are located at the hosting company and can only be accessed when the VPN is active. however the network drives remain present when the vpn is closed. But When the vpn is closed and she tries to access a file in office thru the "file-> open dialog" her computer seems to hang. (It's an XP-pro)
the location she is browsing is a local location.

is there annything i can do about this ??

ATM i've written two vb scripts that open and close the connections, but i think there has to be a better sollution, since both our webmasters -who use the same system- do not have this problem

Does closing the connection help?

closing the vpn connection causes the problem, closing the connection to the network dirves seems to help


i have just noticed however that the pc has -since- developed a problem with both explorer (ie7 and filebrowser keep crashing) and office. i'm not sure if these problems are related in anny way and in what dirrection causalty lays

the logs seem to indicate that there is a problem with a number of dll's and modules

i am trying to update office and reinstall ie7 atm
