What is the new hardware?
Did you install the drivers for it?

I got the same problem. I installed a WD Raptor 36G using the Windows built-in Management utility because I did not have a copy of the WD Data Lifeguard Tools CD. Now everytime I boot up this "Found New Hardware Wizard" box pop up so I click "Cancel. Then I removed the Raptor HD and installed a WD 320G SATA drive using the same method. Now I have two of those messeges pop-up at boot up. I've checked with WD, MS, and several Forums but no one seemed to come up with an explanation or a solution. Other than the pop-ups are annoying, it does not affect the PC in general. Someone said it may have something to do with the SATA controller but my PC supports Serial ATA 3.0Gbs Technology.

You can't just hit Cancel - you have to proceed through.

If I proceed through by clicking on one of the three dots, then a box will appear showing a flash light waving stating also that Windows is looking for something. After a while, another box will appear stating that it could not find something and for me to install the hardware install CD. I don't have the WD Diagnostic Tool CD thus I'm stuck with this dumb message. The new hardware I installed is working fine, recognized by the BIOS, shows in the Device Manager, shows in the Disk Management as "healthy' appears in "My Computer" and is listed in the Windows Explorer. From this I have concluded that the device was installed correctly. On the other hand, it seemed to me that Windows Hardware Wizard disagrees.

The WD CD doesn't have drivers for hard drives, they are native to Windows.
Neither one of you has indicated exactly what kind of device it's finding! |

just got back
Sorry GLC, just got bck to PC.
I got a 5610 HP (saved some $ instead of 6310). During install when I connect the usb Cable, the Windows "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" keeps coming up. The directions say to cancel, pull the USB, and start step 15/16 over. Which is- insert CD, connect USB. Well it must be ground hog day because it just keeps repeating. I have uninstalled the printer driver and software. Deleted the temp files,Turned off the terminate and stay resident programs and other background programs. Downloaded the drivers from HP (just the drivers). But it still stalls during the install when the "FOUND NE HARDWARE" window comes up. The printer works fine because I loaded it on another PC just for process of elimination. I have also emailed HP since its really their problem, and they got back to me once saying it wasn't a technical problem. ? So I got back to them again and have not yet herd form them. thanks in advance B |

Does the instructions say to install the drivers and then after that plug in the usb cable, or to plug the cable in, tell windows to cancell the install and install the drivers yourself after that?
Which ever one, try the other way and see if that helps. |

instruction are very clear about "DO NOT PLUG USB CABLE" in until told to do so!!! :-)
It plastered all over. They must have had a lot of trouble with this issue. In the troubleshooting section for the "found new hardware" it states to go back to steps 15/16 which are insert CD, and then during the install, it tells you when to plug in the cable. I already email HP and they said its not an technical issue. ? huh? maybe geographical issue? And I was online with a help desk person but got cut off so I stopped for awhile. I can always return it, but do not wish to. I can't believe that this is that big a deal. thanks B |

GLC:
It just says Found New Hardware, not smart enough to distinguish what hardware. It seems to me that whatever software the Found New Hardware Wizard belongs too is unable to detect that a piece of device thst has already been installed successfully using some other Install CD. Got a feeling this is Wizard is an OS function. |

Bri, you need to go through the driver install and point it to the appropriate drivers folder on the HP CD. That will kill it.
If that doesn't take care of it, uninstall all the HP stuff and search their support site for their cleanup utility - and start over. |

My mistake. It pointed out to PCI Devices listed under System Devices. when I clicked on it's Properties, it was listed as Unkown however it has a location listed in the IRQ/Interrupt. When I tried to disable, or uninstall this "device", the next time I boot up it reappears in the list of System Devices. By the way this was one of the two box messages which appear evertime I boot up. The other one was associated with the installation of the WD SATA hard drive. I removed the hard drive and that particular box message no longer comes up. I suppose that newer HDs are Pluf n' Play but I guess not for this one cause Windows is unable to detect the driver from among its database.

Donsor, please take this back to your own thread. I have a response waiting for you there.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=193087 I think we've crapped on Bri's thread enough. |

thnks
GLC
I did try to go through with it. What could it hurt. But it didn't work I didn't know they had a clean up utility and will go to it. Thanks for the help. Out of curiosity is there a way to shut off FNH? I can't remember the last time I needed it. It didn't even exist when I started with PC's. Or is it plug and play that is happening? thnks again B |
