Not sure if they will help, but worth a look.

Sorry for venting but I'm really pissed off

As a test I made another folder and put a text file in it. I encrypted the folder and the file inside, then I reversed the whole process and it worked. But the folder in question still is encrypted and I can't get into it

Just out of curiosity - why are you messing with file encryption when you are the only user of your PC?

Because I'm on the board of directors for this condo that I live in and I store the important files from business things.

I did finely fix this problem after spending 100 bucks on a program called Advance efc Data recovery.

I think it was money well spent....

One more thing.. Because you are very smart in pc knowledge does not give you the right to look down on anybody here. It's all in the time it takes to learn.....

That was totally unnecessary - I feel I asked a legitimate question. You need to be less sensitive to any comments that question why you do things the way you do, especially when you have legitimate reasons that have not been previously stated.

Now, if you are really that concerned about the security of these files where you encrypt them on a computer that only you have access to, I think I'd store them on removable media and keep the media under lock and key instead - the old fashioned way! I think you have found out the hard way the dangers of encrypting files.

If you still want to keep them on your hard drive in an encrypted form, keep unencrypted backups on removable media........

That is a great idea and thanks, I will do that. I also think that maybe just maybe the so called intelligent people that make computers what they are today, might simplify these machines so that instead of making life a pain in the butt, make it easier for us all
