W2K to XP Pro
Some of you may have followed as I built this new PC using a slipstreamed W2K/SP4 disk. Well, guess what I found buried in a closet... a Microsoft Windows XP "Go Pro" Collectors Kit. Some of you may remember these. I think it was a one-time introductory offer for $35 or so. It came with a Baseball, Baseball Cards (Joe "Fast" Speedman & others) - hey, I'm not taking off the shrink-wrap, an Eddy "Reliable" Trustman bobble-head doll, and a bag of Big League Chew bubble gum - mine is Sour Cherry flavor, and lastly an original 2001 copy of Windows XP Professional. I welcome comments of any of you that bought this deal in 2001 for the $35 or so.
Anyway, here's my question. I have already set up the PC with W2K and Linux Mint4.0 as dual boot. They are each on their own hdd. Can I boot from the XP Disk and install XP (format the W2K disk)? What would this do to the boot file (Grub)? My other option would be to nuke both drives and start all over. I really haven't had time to add much data to either system. TIA

If you do it, you will want to slipstream it with SP2.

Can't I just install this version and then update to SP2?

No sata drives in this one. In fact windows update is installing SP2 right now.
So now every time it boots, it goes right to WinXP. How do I get GRUB back so I can boot to Linux? Last edited by WJWheels; 02-15-2008 at 09:30 PM. |

Got it. I found a little program called SuperGrub that fixed it. I dl'd the supergrub.iso and burned it to a cd.
You must remember that Baseball themed kit that MS brought out to intro XP Pro, don't you George? I wonder if there's any collector value. Mine's still all in shrinkwrap. |
