Just got a new computer with AMD 1GHz processor, 256M RAM and Windows XP
loaded by the custom computer shop. Had it about a week and have only loaded Pagemaker 6.5, MS Office '97 and Microtek V6USL scanner. Scanner would not work right with XP so uninstalled it. Also, set up home network with one Win98 and one WinME running of a 10/100 Switch. Network working OK. PROBLEM: the new computer with WinXP freezes everytime I launch a program, either Pagemaker, Word or Internet Explorer and WHILE I'm typing or mousing within the program. It has to be something simple but I don't know what it could be. Computer does not appear to be hot and freezes ONLY when mousing or typing. Any ideas for a simple solution? Jim Eley |

Right click on the desktop select Properties select Settings select Advanced select Troubleshooting - move the slider to the left by one notch .. and restart.. do it have it cure it?

To HPRO. Thanks! I did what you suggested and it appears to have helped.
The night is young but things look promising. Thanks for your helpful suggestion. If it works, why did making the adjustment that you suggested help, that is what did the adjustment do with respect to the operation of the cpu? |
