XP Pro startup problem.

The “Install New Hardware” wizard is suddenly appearing when I start XP Pro. Problem is, I haven’t installed any new hardware on this machine in over a year. I checked the device manager and everything looks fine with the exception of Other Devices/Unknown Device.

All installed hardware appears to be working properly. What kind of tests can I run to determine what's causing the new hardware wizard to start?

Thanks
Heed

Please post system specs. You may need to install motherboard chipset drivers or something like that.

I'd update the Via Hyperion drivers:

NOTE: If you are running RAID, make SURE you have a good backup.

It also might be your All-in-Wonder. It needs more than one driver, it requires the WDM in addition to the Catalyst.

I've been trying to update my ATI drivers for days now. I FINALLY got (what ATI said) are the correct set of drivers Friday.

I just got through with the uninstall (again), installed the Catalyst drivers, then the DAO driver, then went to install the DVD Decoder drive which requires the original ATI CD and I get an error message "ATI CD not found". Yet, I can browse the CD and open text files.

Has anybody had a similar problem? ATI isn't open till Monday, so they’re of no help over the weekend.

Any help/advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,
A Frustrated Heedapeeker

ATI's solution to the DVD Decoder driver which requires the original ATI CD. "You do not need this driver, continue the installation". Granted, this is just a CD driver, but what about my ATI CD not being able to validate? lol!

Thanks for the suggestions G!

This has me holding my head now... Still getting the New Hardware Installation Wizard on startup.
