Clean install Win Me
No I'm not crazy...I have an old computer I use for a loaner when I'm working on other folks' machines. TUrns out t he installation of XP that was on when I got ti isn't legit so I wanted to install something else. I have WIn Me cd, never haev installed that particular OS so I wanted to try putting it on the computer. I had Win 2000 on it for a bit, it didn't like some of the hardware. I formatted it with the 2000 cd then shut it off and tried booting it with tehMe bootdisk and cd, every combo I could think of. I cannot convince it to install! I also can't find any step by step installation guides starting from scratch. Can someone help me? Right now I have a formatted hdd, got no further. Doesn't seem to recognize bootdisk either. Boot order in BIOS presently set to boot Cd Rom first.

If you formatted it NTFS, ME can't handle it. ME only supports FAT32. I'd zero fill the drive then partition it with FDISK on the ME CD, then let ME format it on install.
Trust me - 2000 is a much better choice - what didn't it like? I've put 2000 on some pretty old iron successfully. |
