XP dies on boot.....
Not sure where to put this in the forum.
While XP Pro boots.... I see the Widows XP logo and the tracking bar moving left to right as it is booting. Once that is completed my monitor tunrs gray then within 5 or so seconds it goes black. It sounds as though one of my harddrives is still spinning after the screen goes black. I am at a loss on this one. Any help would be great. Is this a new build, or did this problem just occur to an existing computer?

How:
Yes, I am able to get to safe mode.
Here is how I got to this point. On 2/29 I was connected to the internet via my 56K modem. I believe I had three IE windows running and Microsoft Money '05. I needed to make a phone call immediately. I made quick efforts to close all windows and shut down properly, but I became impatient and in a bit of rage I shut the power supply off. So here I am now. The machine ran fine before this incident. Machine was built Oct '07. Thank you all for your help!! |

If you can boot into safe mode, I would try a repair install.

Will I need to worry about backing up the hard drives to do a repair install?
Thanks again, Darin |

It's always a good idea to have a back up just in case, but the repair install shouldn't delete anything. It whould just repair the windows files incase they are corrupt.
