Easy question....

Easy for you guys, maybe...

For once and for all - Fact or fiction? In Windows XP Home:

1. The presence in the Quick Launch bar of shortcuts to applications, files, and folders slows down operations noticeably. The more shortcuts, the greater the effect. (This puzzles me; isn't the Quick Launch bar made for this kind of convenience? Why do people keep telling me not to make significant use of it?)

2. The presence on the desktop of shortcuts to applications, files, and folders slows down operations noticeably. The more shortcuts, the greater the effect.

Me wonders what the results of your test are since it wouldn't take much to test.....

Having five hundred shortcuts in One folder on the desktop will make the desktop load faster then having five hundred shortcuts all over the desktop.

The answer is No, and No. With a 'ton' of desktop icons, you may notice a very slight slowdown on initial boot, but that's it. I've had over 40 on my desktop once and they would pop...up a little slow on boot. That's really over kill as I took to long to clean it up but it's nothing that slows down the "operations" any.
