Windows Outlook 2003 - 2 Emails
Hi,
Right, in work we have Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for our works email. I have a separate POP3 email account which I have up and running receiving fine, and the test account works. BUT, if I go to send an email, I can select for it go go through the POP3 email settings instead of the Exchange Server, but when the email is received it still says it's coming from the works email address instead of the alternative POP3 email address. Can someone help me with configuring Outlook2003 to send via either the Exchange Server or the POP3. Thanks Alex |

Have you checked the email headers to see which server the alternate account is using?

basically, I've got my works email which is working via Exchange Server, but I've got a pop account with another site I use (I'm a rep for the owners club for my car so I've been given and email address from them for admin.)
The incoming pop3 server for that new address is mail.zsoc.com but the outgoing smtp is my ISP's so thats smtp.eclipse.net. When reply to an email sent to the zsoc account the email in the header still says my works address instead of my zsoc address. Is there way I can send from my zsoc address, I can create an email and it'll send via the zsoc settings but the email in the header is still from my works address. I've created a rule so that all incoming zsoc emails goings into a zsoc folder so it's separate that way from my works email. Thanks Alex |

Ok when you configure multiple accounts, Outlook will specifically SEND using the default account's outgoing settings only. During message composition, you can manually select an account's send server by using the "Account" drop down near the SEND button.
Make sure that in your account settings for the POP3 account, you have used the correct send authorization format as specified by your ISP. A lot of ISP's do require you to use a username and password to send as well as receive. This is important because if the send mail fails, Outlook may send using another server. One way to test it out is to make your zsoc.com address the default or better yet temporarily delete the work account (we're assuming you remember or will write down all the settings before deleting ) and make sure that you are able to use your ISPs SMTP server in conjunction with zsoc's POP3.

Yeh, through that "Account" drop down menu I can select the zsoc account details and send via the smtp server specified by my ISP, instead of the Exchange Server.
So I know the POP3 & SMTP details work fine. But I can't see anywhere where to select which email to send from. |

Sorry a bit more information for you...
If I got into the account tools and properties for the ZSOC account it does everything fine except sending an email. "Send test e-mail message: Unable to send test Message. Please verify the E-Mail Address field." |

That explains why it's continually using a connection that works. You will need to reverify every setting for your SMTP server settings, including ports etc. Check with your ISP's site: http://www.netcarrier.com/customer_care/faq/email.asp .. which tells us that :
@eclipse.net addresses: Incoming mail server type: POP3 Incoming mail server name: mail.eclipse.net Outgoing mail server name: mail.eclipse.net If u have further problems ... check: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...742661033.aspx on how to log. |

You got it .. so the likely cause is that you need to use authentication to send mails. Switch your SMTP port to 587 and for your authorization .. enter your eclipse.net username and password.
Usually, again this is an antispam measure .. the way ISP's are set up they "unlock" or "authorize" a user once you check mail. So, say you used your eclipse.net email address, your ISP reasons that you will first check your mail before you send any and it unlocks. Your scenario is such that you dont do a mail check of your elcipse account but are trying to send using it. Hence, you are assumed to be a spammer that is using your ISP's SMTP server to send your Nigerian emails. |
