Windows Explorer Crashes on ShutDown/Standby

Whenever I click on my start menu button and go to "turn off computer" windows explorer crashes. This happened just a few months ago, but its really annoying. It only happens the first time I try it. The second time I am able to do it just fine.

I went ahead and relegated the "turn off computer" button to a hotkey, but still the same problem. The first time I try to go to either standby or shutdown i get the Windows Explorer had a fatal error and must shutdown box.

This isn't really a major problem, but somewhat of an annoyance...anyone else had experience with this?

I have a Dell D620 (had it for about 2 years now) and am running Windows XP on it.

Thanks!

Do you have all your windows updates?

Have you scanned for malware yet?

Have you deleted your temp files?

I have all updates (at least all that install themselves automatically every now and then).

Continuously scan for malware (I'm assuming that Spybot like programs handle these).

Always run CCleaner at least every other day which I'm assuming empties the temp files.

I would try to stop as much as I can from starting with the computer. Use msconfig

Then restart and see if it happens again. If it still does, try it in safe mode. If it still happens, you might want to try a repair install and see if that helps.
