PC not starting up unless in safe mode, please help

Hi all,

For some reason my PC is not starting up unless in safe mode. Bascially usually when you start up you get the Windows Logo with the loading bar before starting up but now I get the same thing but the windows logo bar is not moving, key board and mouse are dead and the screen is kind of faded.

When i shut off the PC it gives me a few options such as safe mode, prompt. Right now i am actually typing this in safe mode so something works.

I tried roll back a couple of times as well and not working.

I am using Windows XP / Intel.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Did you install anything new recently? One of the first things I do with a startup problem, if I haven't installed anything recently, is to disconnect all peripherals - printers, scanners, etc. - and remove any removable media -- CDs, DVDs, etc.

No I haven't, I do not have a printer of scanner either.

I will remove a CD from the drive most likely one of my kid games but i do not think that will do anything.

Any other ideas I could try?

I always see that it is normally a driver or software problem. Shut down all auto starting programs then try normal boot.

Post a HJT log??

I'm no expert but wouldn't this work,

start>run>type msconfig>OK>select startup then uncheck the programs

Of driver problems, it is often the video driver. Try removing & reinstall?

A HJT log still might be a good idea.

Try Last Known Good Config?

I will try the drivers

What is HJT log ?

I tried the last known config as well as restoring a few times at different dates and did not work as well.

Thanks so much.

HJT=HijackThis is a program that creates a log of your registry that with the help of a adviser will find & remove any virus or malware that may be in you PC.

A post by pitstop.com adviser Juliet

Download Trend Micro Hijack This™ and save to desktop.
It is important that you uninstall any previous versions by using Add/Remove programs in your control panel before installing a newer version.
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.

Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
Click on Edit-> Select All then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.

Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Quick question as I tried to fix this.

I uninstalled my video drivers but now I forgot what type of video card I have, I am between moving so do not have access to my stuff.

Could anyone tell me where to look to find what video card I have. I am sure there is away, just don't know where to go to check.

Also is there a program i can download that list all your specs? i had it on my old Pc that listed everything including fan speed and cooling... Everest or something like that it was called.

Thanks in advance.

Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Display Adapter

Probably Everest, SysSpec is also detailed.
