Windows XP Home SP2
Sony Vaio PCV-410-Windows XP Home SP2-Pioneer DVD/CD-RW. The problem-Windows XP will not complete booting if the DVD/CD-RW has a blank disc in it. I have tried all the Windows and Sony updates that included firmware updates to the DVD; I have changed the boot sequence in BIOS, etc.-nothing I have tried works. Take the CD out of the burner and Windows boots just fine. Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciate!

That can happen if the disc is bad. Try it on another machine, or try different media on the problem machine. Does it (the disc) work after booting up? Just curious, but why do you want to keep blank media in the machine?

Enter the BIOS and disable the CD/DVD drive as a bootable drive; that is make the hard-drive the first bootable device and disable all the rest.
Not only will this increase boot times it should cure your little problem. |
