No boot from standby

Hello all, I built this computer, Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe, 550 Antec PSU, 2g Kingston ram, 7800 GS Gigabyte video card, over a year ago and have had very few problems with it to date. Yesterday, my daughter inadvertently hit the 'standby' button when she shut the computer down. Now, it will not post. The power led is on, on the motherboard but it does not emit a beep when it's powered on. All the fans run including the cpu fan. They will run until the computer is shut off manually. The cpu, the video card and the psu never get hot to the touch even if you let the fans run for an hour or more. I have removed the CMOS battery and reset the CMOS ram as per the manual to no avail. I need some expert guidance here. I know a LITTLE about these things but will very much appreciate any help I can get. I'm posting this on another computer that I built for my wife and I've built a couple of other computers but I'm stumped here! New power supply maybe? Please help and sorry for the long post and if this is in the wrong place.

Thanks for the link. From it, I will start with a new power supply, since everything seems to point to power problems. I just do not see how accidentally hitting the Standby button instead of the Turn Off button could cause the psu to fail. Ah well, what fun we are having! Thanks again

Recommendations?

No, dont buy anything yet. See what happens with YOUR parts first.

Just out of curiosity, what's the brand and model of your power supply?

Antec Smartpower 500W. I had thought it was the 550W but it's only 500W. I have pulled everything out of the case and still no joy. I'm going to try another psu and see if that's the problem. As I said all the case fans work and the power LED on the mobo but nothing else seems to be getting power. I have taken the battery out and moved the jumpers as instructed by the manual. Sorry I haven't got back until now. Thanks again for your interest.

I am going to purchase a psu tester before I try anything else. Thanks again
