XP: MSG_TIME_CHANGE_TOO_BIG Error on startup

I got an "MSG_TIME_CHANGE_TOO_BIG" error when I powered up my desktop today. I checked out the error in event viewer with more detailed info from Microsoft Help & Support:

http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/7...esourcepa9.jpg

But the time on my pc clock is correct. I have a brand new motherboard installed, only two weeks old. Could it be a virus? I'm using AVG Fre Edition along with AVG Anti-Spyware.

What else can I check for if it's not my CMOS battery?

Thanks in advance

Since the error first happened, I have powered down my pc and rebooted a couple of times throughout the day. The error message has not reappeared.

Might have just been a one time thing. If it does happen again, I would replace the battery anyway you might have a faulty one..

I wouldn't worry about it. You might want to check the time in your BIOS though and see if it is correct.

The clock in my BIOS was one full day ahead of the Windows clock. I don't know if I incorrectly changed it when I installed the new MOBo. If I did, I wonder why it took two weeks for the first error message to pop up.

The other thing is when I accessed this forum today from my desktop, I had to do a refresh to see all the latest replies. Only your original reply from yesterday was posted and I could not see your last reply or doubledragon5's reply. I knew about your replies earlier today when I was on the forum from my laptop.

It's almost like time was turned back one day on this forum after I reset my BIOS clock. I saw the same thing on another forum I'm a member of.

Or I wonder if this has something to do with downlaoding and installing SP3 today...

I did another reboot and can now see the latest posts in this thread. I'll have to monitor the situation.

Thanks for the help

New motherboards generally are preset to China time, which is 14 or so hours later than the US. I'm betting when you installed the new motherboard, you adjusted the time in the bios, but did not confirm the date.

Example - if you built in the evening, at 1900 local, the bios may have said 0900. This is 0900 the NEXT DAY...........

That might have been what happened.

Thanks
