There is nothing wrong if you just want the service pack, but you won't find any links for a free copy of windows on here. Not that I think you are dishonest, but just in case.

law99:

I down loaded a whole bunch of stuff thru Microsoft Update. How do I know if SP2 was included. I could not find it in the list.

Hitchface:

Sorry but I did not understand your statements.

Basically, I said that you can't just download Windows XP without paying for it. We have had people come on here and ask for illegal programs. I don't know if you are one of those people, though.

I hear the full admin download is about 312mb.

It's not going to be pushed as an automatic update till June.

I'm not sure, I have not installed yet.

donsor, to find out if you have sp2 right-click My Computer, go to properties and you should see "Service Pack 2" under the system section. It should look like this:

SP3 is already out on Windows Update so you'll probably be getting that already.

I misread SP2 & thought it was SP3, sorry.

Add/Remove Programs, click show updates at the top. SP2 is in my list.

Here's the whole skinny. I have a PC which I upgraded by replacing the mobo and CPU. It had a licensed copy of WinXP Home Edition without SP2. I downloaded and installed SP2. However, I did a clean install using the original copy of WinXP which had no SP2. I activated it with no problem. I just want to add SP2 because some programs I wish to loaded required SP2. I activated MS Automatic Update however I'm not sure whether it will include download of SP2. I don't know much about SP3.

Just update everything on Windows Update and you should have SP3. Service Packs are cumulative by the way so if you get SP3, you'll get SP2 and everything else to fully update your system. Check my previous post to see if you got it or not after the update.
