Unexpected, but correct shutdown?

Hi all,

I have an interesting little problem.

Full PC specs are listed in my sig, this is the Intel build that has the issue.

Three times now this week my PC has shutdown completely, each time I have been away from the machine, on the last occasion, I was taking a shower and had Winamp playing some of my fave tunes.

I can rule out a hardware error/fault as Windows shuts down correctly with no error messages on reboot, log files indicate that this is also true, as they report a user initiated shutdown.....

I have run all the necessary malware sweeps using my regular tools, and all comes back clean. I have investigated my routers log pages and no unwelcome intrusions have been detected ( I filter my network with mac addresses as well as WEP-PSK). All temps are within normal operating parameters.

To be honest this has me more than a little baffled, this PC has been rock solid since it was built by me back in September 07. As I said, the Shutdown is as if I had done the usual START>Shutdown routine, but this is not what has happened as I have been no where near the PC when this occurs....

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks for your time

Gremlins?

EDIT: Could it be Windows automatic update shutting it down after an update? Doubt it, but can't hurt to ask.

Thats what I thought initially, but the last updates do not match with the time of the shut-downs, and I get no indication from Windows that any updates have been installed.

Thanks though for the suggestion.

Gremlins, hmmmm, I'll be sure not to pour water on anything

I should add, that it has been totaly random, as said, last evening it was during a Winamp session, playing various MP3's from my external drive, prior times was during the night (I leave this PC on 24/7)next morning had to power on, and once was when I was adding a test Vista PC to the network, whilst setting up shares, the troublesome PC suddenly went off line, when I went upstairs to check why, I found it had shut down.

I am completely baffled, if it was random reboots or power off's, I could narrow it down, but a correct shut-down leaves me stranded.

I don't think a repair install would make much difference, but I will monitor the situation and if necessary do one.

Likewise I don't think an out-of -case check would help either, as there does not appear to be any kind of hardware/shorting fault, unless anyone knows of a piece of hardware that will shut down the PC correctly on it's own.
