Boot-up issue

I'm running XP3 on a HP4650Y, E6600, 2 gig ram. Sometimes, maybe twice a week, when it boots the desktop loads minus the icons and task bar. I have to clt/alt/del to restart and everything loads fine. Once or twice when I've restarted, the computer has hung on the "windows is shutting down" screen, this all started before I upgraded to SP3. I've checked and have no hardware conflicts however I can't recall if this started after installing a new HP printer several months ago. Anyway, I used pc doc to check the ram, video card, mother board, ect. and everything check out though I realize that pc doc doesn't stress the system like other utilities can. No malware, running NIS 2008 ( no boo's please), superantispyware pro, spy sweeper, threat fire pro, spybot s&d and all scans have come back clean. Any one every have this issue before or have any ideas.

Thanks

Maybe a HJT log to really be sure???

Run the tougher tests.

Use one stick of mem & then the other for a while?

There is a Full Test at pcpitstop.com that has helped many when a link to it is posted in User to User.

I'll give that a try plus I'm going to unplug my printer for a few days and see what happens. The HP is my second desktop, Dell XPS 720 is my daily user. The Hp is still under warranty, I just hate dealing with tech support. Thanks for your help!

Most likely a software issue, something running in the startup.

I thought that also GLC but I've got bare bones programs loading on start-up. That computer is not on right now but I'm sure there are no more than 5 or 6. I boot it up later and double check.
