Question XP Pro & Remote Desktop

Hi everyone,

I have Windows XP Professional full edition. I am looking to utilize the remote desktop login, as I use this option for work and it is just great.

My question is: How can I utilize this feature without a static IP address? Or what are my options besides purchasing my own static address?

ISP Provider: Comcast

Thanks,
SM

I use this here and there, but it is limited in what you want to do.

Back to my remote access using XP Pro, is this possible without a static?

Thanks,
SM

Yes, until your IP changes. Comcast doesn't change often.

I checked my ipconfig /all, and it says that the start/expiration time of the assigned IP address is around 24 hours.

Right - it's a 24 hour lease, but 99% of the time it re-leases you the same IP every 24 hours. Generally, the only time it will change is if the modem is powered off at the lease expiration time.

Another option is a dynamic DNS service - then you can connect using a hostname instead of an IP address.
