Question Xp install to sata hdd via sil3114 4port card with not floppy drivewith

Hey cant seem to work this out.

Motherboard is a Via (Gigabyte GA-PCV2-DSI, 1ghz) , with one PCI port, on that i connected a Silicon Image 4 port sata raid (3114) card and then added one sata HDD (connected to port 1) I want this to be my boot drive, I dont have any IDE hdds. The MB also does not hae any floppy drive connector.

Motherboard BIOS does not recognise the drive, but the silicon image Bios does.

1. I do not want any raid features, so do i set the drive as a concatenated drive with only one hdd or should i not assign any logical drives? (options were Raid0,1,5,10,spare,concatenated)

2. My nlite xp (with sp3 and sil3114 driver) detects the drive and installs only if i dont assigne the drive to any of the above, but upon reboot it does not see the drive so goes to the XP install and repeats the initial installion procedure again.

3. if i set the drive via raid bios as concatenated (all other options fail as its only 1 drive) then the drive is booted after initial xp install but says there is a hardware conflict and to reinstall. but the install cd does not recognise the drive if i set it as concatenated before initial install.

4. Motherboard Bios is set to boot SCSI hdd first, then HDD0 then CDrom.

So what am i doing wrong?

all good, needed to put the sata card and hdd in another pc with a floppy drive, create a boot disk and useing that update the cards bios.

Put eveything back in Mini ITX pc, new bios was set with no logicial drives, used a WinXP with SP3 and sil3114 drivers slipstreamed on and xp installed fine

Suggestion for the future:

Get a USB floppy drive for your toolkit.
