Question Remove Vista for XP

I need to remove Vista from my son's laptop and replace with XP. Can an upgrade copy of XP be used? When I start the conversion/install, will the disk drive automatically be wiped clean?

Any help will be appreciated.

Have you confirmed that you can get XP drivers for the pc from the pc makers web site?

I dont think Vista qualifies as a product an XP upgrade CD can be used for. AFAIK the only qualifying products are Windows NT 3.51 Workstation, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium

Drivers

Yes, there are XP drivers for his laptop. One of the major questions is whether or not there will be a problem "downgrading" to XP or do I need to wipe the disk completely prior to installation?

You need to wipe it. To use the upgrade copy of XP, you will need a CD with a qualifying OS on it to put in the drive when the compliance check fails.
