task manager

i purchased a Dell computer with xp home, in the task manager under applications it shows tool bars running, i have xp home as well as xp pro on other computers (home built) and this does not show up, is this something new or is it some toolbar that i don't know about running, i have not installed any but dell might have. how can i find out?

Hey Claude, long time, no see. Good to know yer still pickin' em up and layin' em down!

Try this. Right click on the task bar and mouse over the Toolbars to see which ones are checked. Uncheck the ones you don't want/need. Dell typically installs a bunch of unncessary stuff. You can get rid of them thru Add/Remove programs (like Google Desktop and Google tool bar) or shut them off using msconfig. Here's a handy site to check programs running at startup to see if they are needed or optional.

Does it list specific tool bars running? What are they?

I would suggest running pcdecrapifier, which will get rid of most of the unwanted stuff Dell tends to load on new systems.

i had checked the toolbars and all i have checked is quick launch. already removed google toolbar, and dont see any other listed in add remove, msconfig i only have avg at startup and see no toolbars anywhere. the url didnt show me anything. i have a dell laptop with xp and had no problem removing all the software i didnt want but this has stumped me.

doesn't list specific toolbars but when i end task it stops my toolbar where all my programs are listed __start-ie-mail etc. ill try pcdecrapifier and let you know.

nope pcdecrapifier did not do anything, maybe toolbars is supposed to be running, is it on your computer task manager?

Doesn't show as running any toolbars in my task manager. Odd that it would be tied to the Start Menu.

Right click on the application in the task manager and select "Go to process". What process does it go to?

i fixed it, dont know how or when but there was a quick launch tool bar added, i accidentally found it and deleted and that fixed it. still dont know when where or how i had added or how it came up so i could find it but its gone. i still have the quick launch on my tool bar just not and extra one.
