"Some updates could not be installed"

I recently built an AMD system. Everything works fine except for windows updates. After loading XP Pro I ran Windows updates and installed SP3. Since then a few other updates have come up but after running the install the message "Some updates could not be installed" comes up listing the same updates. I closed this window and after a while the yellow shield on the tray reappears asking me to install the same updates again.

I read here there are 2 issues with SP3 and having an AMD system is one of them. However my system is not on "reboot loop". Also when I press F8 to be able to go into Safe Mode I have a boot menu listing my boot devices

a. floopy
b. cdrom
c. hard disk
d. hard disk

It is an ASUS M2N-MX SE PLUS. Do I need to uninstall SP3?

You have already found your solution. If you read that SP3 and AMD systems aren't suited for each other then uninstalling SP3 would be a wise choice. I personally don't like SP3 until the Vista Transformation Pack becomes compatible with it.

Well there is suppose to be a fix for it. Although my problem is not a reboot problem it makes me think it could be related to it. Read posting #56 on this tread:

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=196440

The problem also as I stated above is that I can't get to Safe Mode by using F8/Safe Mode. Instead of having a boot menu for ways to boot the operating system after pressing F8 I have a boot menu as in which drive to boot from. I wonder if this is happening because of SP3 or because of a BIOS setting for this motherboard,ASUS M2N-MX SE PLUS.

You are pressing F8 too soon.
