Can I delete contents of Temp folder in XP Home?
My new computer came loaded with XP Home about 10 days ago. In an effort to keep an "uncluttered" file system, I periodically clean out all the temp files. In my old Win98SE, I always deleted things that got put in my temp directory that were more than a few days old. I am not totally used to the new XP/NT file system yet. There is a "Temp" directory in the "Local Settings" folder under my name (administrator) on the C drive. I think the path is something like "C:\...\myname\Local Settings\Temp." There are subfolders in the Temp directory such as "_istmp.dir," "%rootdir%," and "Vbe." These subfolders contain files such as "uninstall.exe," "setup.exe," along with a lot of *.log files. Most of them are dated before I even received the computer. Looks to me like these are all relating to the initial setup of my system and are no longer needed. I was always under the impression that no system or application ever saves any needed files to temp directories, and any files put into a temp directory not dated today are not needed. Just wanted to check with some experts who may have been using NT/2000 before to verify this. There are about 2megs worth in this temp directory including all the subfolders.

The "documents and settings\username\temp is the location of your old c:\windows\temp stuff. Go ahead and delete.
