quick launch& desk top icons wandering
don't really know when it started but the desk top icons (ie-doc. etc.) I like placed at top left in certain order AND my quick launch placed in certain order. Problem-- each time i shut down or restart the desk icons revert to vertical upper left, quick launch disappears, i have to re check quick launch toolbar (then the icons appear in alphabetic order (not the way i want them) i then lock toolbar. i can't seem to find a solution. i have a New Dell computer running xp home with sp3. dont know if this is an xp thing , never happened on my other xp home built computers.

Right click on the desktop, arrange icons by - uncheck auto arrange. Try leaving the taskbar unlocked.

i've unchecked auto arrange, it now is align to grid- and on restart after shutdown the quick launch is not started, i can start it and all the programs are restored to it but in alphabetical order. i have gone to display -desktop-customize - web and clicked lock desktop items ---didn't do any thing. i have changed the display settings on screen resolutions to 1680-1050 so i went back to the 1024-768 and it did not resolve anything.
i have sp3 on my other computer with xp-pro and nothing like this is going on.i have run out of fixes that i can find. |

well i visited numerous forums and it seems this is a common problem but no one has a fix that works, i tried everything including some regedit and nothing worked so i went back to the tried and true systems restore and whatever i had done to cause the problem was taken care of. dont have any idea what it was.

I have the same problem Raftero (my quick launch bar also disappears), does anyone know a fix for this problem atm? Has anyone seen a confirmation on any forums that this is a bug or virus?
I use http://users.rcn.com/taylotr/icon_restore.html suggested by Gilera in another thread (thanks for that), but my icons reset quite often so it’s not solving the problem in the long run. Bloody annoying to have to do a full system restore every time this happens! Just to clarify: I run Winxp. Auto-arrange is not ticked. Icons do not revert to upper left-hand side instantly after I move them, but after some time (varies - but always if computer is restarted). Grateful for any tips |
