Delay in accessing files within My Pictures in XP

Hi

I hope this is in the right place to post this - I wonder if anyone could suggest why one of the folders in My Pictures takes about one minute to open. If I open Task Manager while waiting it says that the program is not responding. But if left, it opens.

The folder in question is about 4.5Gb - is it that the folder has become too large, or something else? All other (smaller) folders within My Pics respond as normal.

Thanks in advance.

Are you viewing the folder in Thunbnail view?
Approx how many files make up the 4.5 gigs?

Hi EzyStvy

I changed from thumbnail to list and it still takes 30 secs to open.

Computer spec is AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core 4200+ with 2048Mb Ram.

There are about 50 pic files in there.

Any further thoughts?

Here's a tweak that I use and like:

Quote:
Windows XP Icon Cache

Are you experiencing icon lag, while browsing thru all your Start icons and programs? Do you have a smaller menu delay and your icons need ages to load? No need to give up.

Just delete the IconCache.db file from your profile directory (usually /Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Application Data).
Note that the iconcache.db is a hidden file so you have to enable show hidden files.

Thanks for that EzyStvy, it seems to have done the trick - only a very slight delay now.#

Great forum & service!
