Window "Device Driver" error and "Corrupted Error Report"

Ok, so this is what happened. I turn on Monitor after an overnight and things seem fine. Then I began to use FF and it started to feel abnormal as in sluggy. Then i got a freeze, where the entire desktop just goes blue w/ the exception of one or two programs running, one of that is FF. Naturally I quit FF and the desktop restored back.

Felt weird, so I re-logon into my Administrative Account, and bam error report hit. Stupid me for not copy down the technical list of the error, but after I submited to MS, a response page opened and it reads something like this is a device driver error, which has to do w/ your hardware or software and possible BSOD. SOlution available is none at the moment. After reading that, I quit and bam another error report, so naturally I report that too. Right it was submitted, I got another page, but this time it said something about corrupted error data and this is rare and meaning a serious problem in my system. The suggestions tell me to uninstall the latest software or update for possible suspects.

Of all the recent suspects that I can think of, there are only like two. One is the G25 software/hardware, and like 10 updates from MS auto update that I just patched last night.

I'm kind of befuddled right now, so i want advices from you guys to what should I do?

Btw, the G25 software is running the latest version.

Ok, just got a BSOD right after I quit CSS.....Comp restarted before I have the chance to write down any information.

Right after the restart, I logoff and log back on and Bam an error report. This time I got the files or wat/ever that are supposed to be included in the report.

They are:

Quote:
C:\Doc~1\Jimmy(me)\Temp\WER0a6d.dir00\Mini06008-01.dmp
-------------------------------------------------------------\Sysdata.xml

------ (Same path)

Any idea?
I will try and regenerate the bsod again and trot down the infos.

Edit:

This page seem to provide a merit explanation of the error.

I will try and re-update my 8800 GT w/ a driver from EVGA site, though both drivers, nVidia's and EVGA's, are of the same version. My only concern is the MS patch for Memory Dump. The patch is said to be for SP1, and I have SP2b so can I still patch it w/out any conflicts?

Go to

Control Panel > System > advanced settings > Startup and Recovery Settings > Uncheck automatically restart under failure.

A memory dump is USELESS to anyone here. If you do what shadowpr said, you will be able to read the bluescreen which is what's useful.

I have XP Home Edition, so I guess I will go w/ number 2, Bob.

Hm.... So apparently this page is the solution, somewhat.

So anyone has a similar problem like me? I'm not quite sure on what to do, patch or wait.

So do I just download it and patch up?

This is a lil bit first time thing, so I'm kind of not sure how to approach it...

You could try. I really can't say for sure though if it will work.

Ok here is the latest thing. I patch up the hotfix and I think the problem is still there.

The latest BSOD said that my BIOS is not ACPI compliant and that I should visit my hardware vendor site to update the BIOS...or "hardware-update.com"

And after checking out hardware-update.com, it got nothing. It's not even a definite site.

Oh and the BSOD data line is this
Quote:
0x000000 A5(0x00000011, 0x0000006, 0x000000, 0x000000, 0x000000)
I got the bsod while restarting to run Memtest86+. I did so because I noticed how my computer would just lagging and freeze while performing very simple minimize and switching between games to do other stuffs. for example, it would froze for like 1-2 minutes when I minimize CSS. Just a black screen. This is just happening today, very recent.

The last time this thing happened, I reformated my Window and now it does again. I am curious to know is this something to do w/ the specific version of window or something? like my copy of XP home.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Windows has detected that the BIOS in the computer is not fully compliant with Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI).

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, contact the manufacturer of your computer to obtain a BIOS that is fully ACPI compliant.

To work around this behavior, manually install the Standard PC hardware abstraction layer (HAL): 1. Restart the computer to restart Setup.
2. When Setup starts again, press F7 (not F6) when you see the "Press F6 if you need to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver" screen.

Windows automatically disables the installation of the ACPI HAL and installs the Standard PC HAL.

(0x000000011, Parameter2, Parameter3, Parameter4):

The system cannot enter ACPI mode. There are many reasons for this, including: • The system cannot initialize the AML interpreter.
• The system cannot find the Root System Description table.
• The system cannot allocate a critical driver.
• The system cannot load the Root System Description table.
• The system cannot load device descriptor blocks.
• The system cannot connect an interrupt vector.
• The SCI_EN (system control interrupt enable request) cannot be set (see 0x00000001).
• The ACPI Table checksum is incorrect.

ACPI is a hierarchical arrangement of tables, each one building upon the next to define the complete capabilities of the system and of every device in the system. ACPI starts by looking for the Root System Description table, which points to the next table, which points to the next table, and so on. Usually, the 0x000000011 error occurs because these tables are damaged or missing.

What exact model motherboard do you have and what is your current bios revision?

Model M57SLI-S4 and BIOS from Dxdiag is AWARD Modular v6.00PG

From CPu-Z the version of BIOS is FB and dated 6/14/2007

So, what should I do again?
Flash BIOS?

And do you think this has anything to do w/ the previous problem?

I assume that's a Gigabyte?

I also assume it's a Rev 2.0 board?

If so, FG is the latest bios, get it.

Correct and uh, CPU-Z read rev A2

Mine has the Universal port thing, the huge pink one for old printer to connect, which is something of rev 1.1 and 1.0.

SO flash BIOS it is?

Got another BSOD while playing CSS AFTER I patched the hotfix. It is not the same screen, but something like it was waiting on a dump or some sort and ACPI is not response. Once again I didn't wrote it down, so no way to be sure, but I think I can tell if I see it again.

Wait a minute - if you have a 1.0 or 1.1 board and bios FB, that may be a problem - FB is only for 2.0. You need to positively determine what hardware revision the board is, you cannot trust software to do this, the only way is physically look at the board for markings. The 1.0 and 1.1's use F1 through F14. The 2.0's use FA through FG.

I would recommend you do. After flashing, reset it to defaults then recustomize it.

By recustomize do you mean overclock and stuffs?

if so, does it affect anything other than OC, for example the os?

Also, how should do it? the traditional way-boot up via DOS and then do it- or should I use one of the BIOS flashing software that Gigybate included w/ my MB?

I believe the safest way is to do it right after you turn it on. Read the manual though and will tell you how to do it. Usually either with a floppy or usb drive.

I know on Asus, I was able to use a usb flash drive and hit a key whiole booting up I believe and that flashed my bios.

Don't recommend trying to use a windows program to flash the bios at all.

Should I back up my stuffs before flashing? and then are there anything I should do after the flash?

ALso, I have no floppy drive lol, so that option is out of the question.

Edit:

Also, do I save all the files to USB drive or just one of the files. I got like three from extract, one bat, one exe and one fg, which I assume the specific file for m57sli bios.

Always a good idea to back up your files before anything major.

Not sure about the exact process of flashing. It's been a while since I flashed mine. The manual should say, or thre should be instructions online.

Well, acording to the manual, it only mentions the fg file, but nothing to the other two, which got me uneasy.

Edit:

Edit again:

Finalyl got it to work. For some reason my freaking Memorex USB is not recognized by the q-flash. I switch to my Corsair's one and it finally recognized the thing and update the BIOS.

SO, what now?

A quick back to the memory dump error above. When I obtained the hotfix, it is labeled under "Release" Sp4 and Sp3. Now w/out any knowledge of the actual information, I willI assume that those stand for Service pack 3 and 4. From what I know, then 4 is not even out nor near completion yet, so wt heck....And 3, well I'm still running Sp2, so would it be a comparability problem o.O

I patched the Sp3, but problem is still there and then I am lost.....

Well, clicking on the Additional Information showed that the Sp3 Release dated 2006, while the Sp4 is dated 6/2/2008.....

I think I will remove the Sp3 and patch the Sp4.

Probably because its formatted in a filesystem not supported by the program.

A question, how come my system just suddenly lag ALOT compare to like few weeks ago whenever I minimize/maximize games.

To give you an idea, it basically just hang a black screen when I minimize/maximize CSS for like a minute before resume back to the game. I can minimize the game just fine, but maximize it back is a pain.

It has never been like this, only recent. About the same time as the error.
