Windows XP Pro from XP Home Ed??

Our leader, the beloved Dave, has written that he believes XP Professional is better than Home edition and the new windows, too.

I'm using XP home edition and wonder if there is a simple and cheap way to move to professional edition. Is such a move worthwhile?

Unless you're running in a business environment, the extra security features offered by Pro aren't worth the upgrade. This issue is getting a little long in the tooth but here's what MS has to say about the differences.

Notice that article is from 2001 so some of the info is outdated due to upgrades. (like IE6 is now IE&)

As already stated no. You can get most of those 'extras' using both free and commercial programs.

The average home user won't see the difference. If they do, there is 3rd party freeware that most often covers the difference.
