explorer.exe keeps closing!

Hey fellas...

Got a slight problem and am curious as how to fix it. Whenever I open anything in Windows Explorer (My Computer, My Documents, Music folder etc) my explorer.exe closes and turns back on, sometimes never coming back on forcing me to Alt+Ctrl+Del to open the task back up. The only thing I suppose it could've came from was a torrent I downloaded for a program. I wasn't sure at first it was the program because it worked fine and such until the problem happened. That's when I put the .exe file in VirusTotal and half of the sites said it was infected. Well, I uninstalled it, deleted every file associated with it, and basically got rid of everything that I could find with it. Downloaded Avast! and updated it and the same with Spybot S&D, along with my Ad-Aware 6 Professional I have. Booted into safe mode and ran scans on everything. Unfortunately, I only received 3 problems from Spybot which I deleted but nothing from Ad-Aware or Avast. I figured I fixed the problem and booted it back up and it fixed it slightly because at first my explorer.exe was closing at random times, no matter what was open. Normally with viruses (that's what I'm guessing this is) and such I would just format because there is nothing wrong with a clean install , but this time I have over 10GB of music and such I really do not feel like backing up on so many discs. Anyone know any solutions to this or have any ideas for virus scanners and such?

Thanks.

-System specs are in signature if needed, operating system is Windows XP Pro.

Are you up-to-date with windows updates?

I had a similar problem several months back, but it seemed to go away after running windows updates at one point.

Yes I am. I'm running a housecall scan in safe mode as we speak. Hopefully it picks something up

Edit: It only detected 6 HTTP Cookies in which I deleted. I'll reboot back into normal mode and see how it goes.

The scan did nothing . I might give AVG a try. I was considering downloading SP3 to see if that would have any effect on the problem but I love my Vista Transformation Pack and it is not yet compatible with SP3.

Problem fixed. Seems like Avast and HouseCall failed me for the first time. Normally I hate AVG with a passion but this time it really helped and deleted 8 infections. Thanks AVG .
