I've just dumped 32 bit Vista for 64 bit XP Pro. All my specs are in my signature. My problem is I cannot find the correct driver for my network card so I can start updating all the other millions of drivers I need to download.
The network card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller (802.11g) I cannot for the life of me find the driver that will work for my operating system, they keep coming up with "Not the appropriate driver for this operating system" i THINK i may have found the right driver on broadcom's site, I was told a lot of the drivers would really be server 2003 64 bit drivers. I found one specifically for AMD even. Only problem is when I unzip the download, the folder has a .txt file, a .info file and a .sys file. When I burn it to a disc and try to run it on my laptop, it does nothing. There is no .exe in the folder. When I download the WRONG driver from dell's site I get just a .exe, but from broadcom I get all those other goofy files. I'm pretty much stuck here. What do I need to do? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! ~Vinny |

Use the update driver function in device manager and point it to those files.

ugh. not having any luck here. I'm trying every .sys that even looks remotely like the right one and I'm fairly certain I'm having the device manager look for it properly.
I'm burning the three files to a disc (.cat, .inf, .sys btw, I was wrong before) then I plug that cd into the laptop. I open device manager, network control, drivers, update drivers, auto look online > no, find from specified source, 1) tried the cd, 2) tried dropping them into my docs. It says files could not be found every single time. Should I only go with the .sys and just burn a disc with every single .sys that seems like the right one and try to get it to pull from the disc or better yet throw them in my docs and let it pick the right one? This: http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethe...oaddrivers.php is where I'm pulling from, I'm trying the mobile section, thinking that would line up with my Turion mobile proc. am i looking in the wrong place? I have a feeling I am. Thanks so much for the trouble of answering these questions! I've updated drivers a million times, but never the network driver, I could always access the net and pull the drivers from there. this is quite annoying. Thanks! ~V |

b44amd64.cat b44amd64.inf b44amd64.sys All 3 have to be in the same folder, and you point to that folder. Last edited by glc; 07-29-2008 at 02:40 PM. |

That was my problem then, by the time I tried that particular file I was only going with the .sys not the other three.
