Have you installed the chipset/video card drivers?

What happens when you try to boot into normal mode?

I did wipe out the drive first, then partitioned the C drive and re-installed XP. I did not install the chipset/video card drivers? When I try to start in normal mode you see the screen that says Windows XP, then it never takes me to the password page to sign in. The screen goes blank and then the computer eventually reboots. I can get into Safe mode okay

after going in safe mode,,install the drivers,,guess they're executables [.exe]
or go to control panel-system-hardwrae--device manager..
